Thyroid Antibodies
Definition
Thyroid antibodies are immune proteins that attack thyroid tissue. The two most common are thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb), which are elevated in Hashimoto's thyroiditis, the leading cause of hypothyroidism. TSH receptor antibodies (TRAb) are associated with Graves' disease.
